The Center for the Arts is seeking enthusiastic volunteers to help create exceptional experiences for our campus and community audiences.

As a volunteer, you’ll play an important role in supporting performances, special events, and community programming while helping guests feel welcome and engaged from the moment they arrive. Whether you’re interested in assisting with a single event or volunteering throughout the season, there are flexible opportunities to get involved!

Volunteer roles may include:

  • Greeting and assisting patrons during events
  • Supporting front-of-house operations and wayfinding
  • Assisting with seating and guest flow
  • Supporting special events and community programming

Volunteer Responsibilities

Core Expectations

All volunteers are expected to:

  • Arrive on time and check in/out with the House Manager or Volunteer Coordinator
  • Represent the College of Coastal Georgia and the Center for the Arts in a professional, welcoming manner
  • Provide excellent customer service to all patrons, guests, and performers
  • Follow all venue policies, safety procedures, and ADA compliance standards
  • Maintain confidentiality when exposed to sensitive event or patron information
  • Dress according to CFA volunteer dress code
  • Complete required training prior to first shift
Front-of-House (FOH) Support

Responsibilities include:

  • Greeting and welcoming patrons upon arrival
  • Assisting with ticket scanning and directing guests to will call or box office
  • Providing wayfinding support (restrooms, seating selections, concessions, exits)
  • Distributing programs or event materials
  • Monitoring lobby areas to ensure flow and safety
  • Supporting accessibility needs (e.g., guiding patrons to ADA seating)
Ushering & Seating Support

Responsibilities include:

  • Assisting patrons in locating seats quickly and accurately
  • Managing late seating procedures per event guidelines
  • Monitoring aisles and ensuring clear egress pathways
  • Enforcing basic venue policies (no flash photography, no outside food, etc.)
  • Communicating with the House Manager regarding patron issues or disruptions
Event Operations Support

Responsibilities include:

  • Assisting with pre-event setup (signage, stanchions, registration tables, VIP areas)
  • Supporting crowd flow and line management during peak entry times
  • Assisting with post-event breakdown (light reset, materials collection, lost and found)
  • Supporting outdoor or overflow logistics as needed
VIP/Donor Experience Support

Responsibilities include:

  • Greeting VIP guests, donors, and sponsors
  • Assisting with VIP check-in and access areas
  • Supporting hospitality elements (light coordination – not serving unless approved)
  • Ensuring a high-touch, polished experience for key stakeholders
Special Event/Community Engagement Support

Responsibilities include:

  • Supporting educational programs, school visits, or community events
  • Assisting with registration/check-in processes
  • Providing directional support for large groups (K-12, senior groups, etc.)
  • Acting as a liaison between event staff and participants
What Volunteers Do Not Do:
  • Handle cash or financial transactions
  • Operate technical equipment (lighting, sound, rigging)
  • Provide security or enforcement beyond basic policy reminders
  • Engage in backstage or artist-only areas unless explicitly assigned
  • Lift heavy equipment or perform unsafe physical tasks
Leadership Structure:
  • Volunteers report to: House Manager/Event Operations Lead
Time Commitment Expectations:
  • Minimum of 2 shifts per semester (e.g., 2-4 events)
  • Ability to commit to full shift duration (typically 3-5 hours)
  • Advance sign-up required for each event
Training Requirements:
  • Completion of initial orientation (in-person)
  • Review of CFA policies and emergency procedures
  • Role-specific briefing prior to each event
