Mariner Parents & Family

Welcome, Parents & Guardians!

We’re excited to partner with you as your student begins or continues their journey at the College of Coastal Georgia. The relationship we have with our students’ parents and families is a partnership. Built on the shared interest in your student’s success and well-being, our Parent & Family Programming aims to help you stay connected to your student and support their educational and co-curricular experiences.

We believe that when families are engaged and supported, students thrive. That’s why we are committed to keeping you informed, connected, and involved every step of the way. From key resources and timelines, to opportunities for involvement and support, you’ll find everything you need in one place to help guide and celebrate your student’s success alongside us.

Welcome from the Vice President

Dear Mariner Parents and Families,

As the old adage goes, it takes a village to raise a child. Our version of that at the College of Coastal Georgia: It takes a village to help a Mariner be successful! Having been in this business for a number of years, I have found nothing to be more true! Having a loving and supportive family structure gives students the confidence to explore and challenge themselves in college. Pair that with the academic and social support they are receiving while on campus (something we do better than anyone else), and your student is set up for ultimate success.

That’s why we are so excited to launch the College’s first Parent & Family Programming Initiative. Rooted in our shared interest in the success of your student, the work of the Parent & Family Programming at the College will center on three things:

  • To inform parents and families of Coastal Georgia students with pertinent information about the College, its goals, and activities.
  • To involve parents and families in the life of the College by providing a variety of opportunities to engage with our community.
  • To exchange ideas and support strategies to assist your students in their success at the College.

The program is designed to start slow and build on the synergy we receive from our participants. We welcome your input, feedback, and help as we chart a new course for this exciting initiative.

Be sure to save the date for our inaugural Fall Parent & Family Weekend, October 24-26, 2025. The “choose your own adventure” weekend will begin with an event in conjunction with the City of Brunswick’s First Friday festival and will include a cookout, a walk on the beach, and a few other surprises.

As always, we are grateful for the trust and confidence you have placed in us by sending your student to our campus. Please reach out to me if there is anything we can do to help!

Take good care, and GO MARINERS!

FAQs
Can I access my student’s grades?

At the College of Coastal Georgia, student academic records are protected by the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). This federal law gives students the right to decide who may access their educational information, including grades.

This means that parents do not automatically have access to a student’s grades. However, students may choose to complete a FERPA release form through the Office of the Registrar if they would like to grant permission for their information to be shared with a parent or family member.

We encourage you to talk with your student about how they would like to share their academic progress with you. Our faculty and staff are always available to support students directly, and we’re glad to connect them with resources that can help them succeed. You can learn more here.

What happens if my student gets sick?

If your student feels unwell while at the College of Coastal Georgia, they have access to free health services through our Student Health Center (SHC), located on the second floor of the Campus Center.

The SHC is staffed by a licensed Nurse Practitioner who can provide care for common illnesses like colds, flu, ear infections, minor injuries, and more. Students may schedule an appointment online through the patient portal in MyCCGA Student Portal, and walk-ins are welcome when availability allows. Both in-person and telemedicine appointments are offered.

If a student requires care beyond what the SHC can provide, we work closely with community partners such as the Glynn County Health Department, Southeast Georgia Health System, and local physician offices to ensure they receive the support they need.

Our mission is not only to treat students when they’re sick, but also to promote overall wellness so they can stay healthy, succeed in their studies, and feel supported throughout their time at Coastal Georgia.

Who does my student talk to about academic issues?

If your student is experiencing academic issues, they have several points of support at the College of Coastal Georgia. Their first stop is often their COMPASS Career & Academic Advisor, who can help with course planning, degree requirements, and overall academic direction. For subject-specific challenges, students are encouraged to visit the Academic Tutoring and Instruction Center (The ATTIC), which offers peer tutoring, supplemental instruction sessions, and academic resources in a friendly and supportive environment.

When do the residence halls close?

Students are welcome to remain in their residence hall during fall break, Thanksgiving break, and spring break. Winter break housing requires a separate online application, but if a student is not staying on campus during that time, they do not need to remove their belongings from their suite.
