Three Coastal Georgia Culinary Students Awarded Les Dames d’Escoffier Scholarships

Brunswick, GA – At the Atlanta Chapter of Les Dames d’Escoffier’s 3rd Annual Scholarship and Grant Recipient Reception held at The Atlanta History Center on August 10, three students enrolled in the College’s culinary arts career degree program received scholarships. The Coastal Georgia honorees were (pictured left to right) Angel Wright, a first-year culinary student from Lithia Springs, Georgia; Eboni Hughes, a first-year culinary student from Conyers, Georgia; and Santoria Axson, a second-year culinary student from Brunswick. Axson, who is also president of the campus culinary association, CHEF, will graduate in December 2015.

“This is wonderful recognition for our students. It speaks to their good work and talents while also recognizing the quality of our program in culinary arts. Our hospitality management students, staff, and faculty deserve recognition for all they do every day, not only in the classroom and teaching kitchen, but also across the community,” said Dr. Skip Mounts, Dean of the School of Business and Public Management.

Les Dames d’Escoffier is an international society of women promoting and fostering excellence in the culinary professions for women. Membership in the Atlanta chapter includes chefs, restaurant owners, caterers, cookbook authors, food writers, wine industry professionals, culinary educators, hospitality executives and others with ties to the culinary industry.

The College’s School of Business and Public Management offers career associate degrees (Associate of Applied Science) in culinary arts and in hospitality management with a concentration in hotel operations. The culinary arts program is the only one in the University System of Georgia that is accredited by the American Culinary Federation, with accreditation recently extended for an additional three years.
