Rotaract Club of the College of Coastal Georgia is Recognized

The Rotaract Club of the College of Coastal Georgia was recognized with the “Zone 34 Rotaract Award” for 2019-2020 because of the club’s commitment to fellowship through service.

The Rotaract Club is part of Rotary International, a global organization dedicated to bringing together businesses and professional leaders to provide humanitarian service and advance goodwill and peace around the world. Rotaract at the College is co-sponsored by the Rotary Club of Brunswick and the Saint Simons Rotary Club and is in Zone 33-34 district, which runs from Pennsylvania, along the U.S. coast, and down to South America. There are hundreds of clubs within the district, and the College’s Rotaract was one of the clubs recognized for its pledge to service and the development of leadership skills.

To be recognized, the Rotaract Club had to meet certain criteria about activities and score at least 30 points out of 50. The criteria included frequency of club meetings and projects; community service; having a Rotarian as a guest speaker during a meeting; membership growth; member participation; and hosting a fundraiser. The Coastal Georgia Rotaract Club scored 40 points out of 50.

Brian Weese, director of Career Development at the College, is the Rotaract Club advisor and president of the Rotary Club of Brunswick. Weese said he is very proud of the students for their well-deserved recognition.

“The College’s Rotaract Club members have a real passion for what they do and a desire to make the word a better place,” he said. “These members are developing valuable skills that will benefit them their entire lives. While giving back to the community feels immediately rewarding, it also builds character, develops networking skills, and provides solid experience to put on the resume and discuss in interviews.”
