College of Coastal Georgia took another step last week toward making it one of the premiere institutions of higher learning in the state.
In a quiet ceremony, representatives from Coastal and from Anguilla Community College penned their signatures to a memorandum of understanding that paves the way for the two schools to work together to promote international education opportunities for students, faculty and staff.
Simply put, the memo could mean students and teachers at Coastal could find themselves spending a little time in the Caribbean.
It seems Coastal’s officials have a keen sense for making connections in some of the world’s most beautiful places.
The new memo, signed Feb. 3, marks the fourth such formal arrangement and the third in the breathtaking blue waters of the Caribbean. Two others in the region are in Belize — Ecumenical Junior College and Stan Creek Independence Junior College.
The other, with American College in Greece, is in one of the most historically significant places in human history.
The options for studying around the world are starting to come together for College of Coastal Georgia students, and that can only make it a more attractive place to attend.
Combined with a campus that, since becoming a four-year baccalaureate program, has transformed into a lovely place in its own right, and Coastal is clearly a prime choice.
As it grows — adding degree programs, forming international partnerships and offering robust amenities for students — Brunswick is set to see an injection of young energy and life that will hopefully translate in economic terms.
As the University System of Georgia continues to merge colleges like Armstrong State University with Georgia Southern, Coastal continues to forge an identity all its own. Additions like another option for studying abroad can only help to solidify that.
The soon-to-be interim president will be stepping into a position ripe for innovation and expansion. We hope she takes the momentum of the last few years and runs with it, further ensuring Coastal becomes a destination for many of Georgia’s students.
We say bravo to College of Coastal Georgia on another venture sure to move the school to the top of many lists.
