Brunswick, GA – Marietta resident Richard Moore ’69 was honored as the 2014 College of Coastal Georgia Alumnus of the Year at a reception recognizing College scholarship recipients and benefactors on Saturday evening, September 27, at the A.W. Jones Heritage Center of the Coastal Georgia Historical Society, St. Simons Island. The award was presented by Rev. Dr. Glenn Thomas Carson ’80 of Nashville, Tennessee, former chair of the Alumni Association leadership group and recipient of the award in 2011, and St. Simons Island resident Jack Kilgore, College Foundation Vice-Chair and close personal friend of Moore.

Moore retired from Corporate Community Relations and Economic Development with AGL Resources in Atlanta. He played two years on the then-Brunswick Junior College baseball team and graduated in 1969 with an Associate of Science degree in Business Administration. Moore completed his BBA at Georgia State University in 1972 while working full time at Atlanta Gas Light and later graduated from the Economic Institute of the University of Oklahoma as his career with AGL focused increasingly on economic development, marketing and government relations. He served as a working partner on Georgia Allies, a public-private partnership formed to help promote the state’s marketing efforts. He is a member of the Georgia Economic Developers Association, the Georgia Professional Lobbyist Association, a board member of the Georgia Youth Science and Technology Centers, a College of Coastal Georgia Foundation trustee, and serves on the Boy Scouts Corporate Classic Committee. He is also the recipient of the Georgia Lobbyist Lifetime Achievement Award.

The alumni award was established in 2011 to honor an alumna or alumnus of the College who demonstrates leadership and dedication in supporting and advocating on behalf of Coastal Georgia. The recipient is selected by the Alumni Association Leadership Group. Previous recipients, in addition to Rev. Dr. Carson, are Mike Hodges ’73 of St. Simons Island and Lillian Prosser Talbert ’68 of Brunswick.
