Men’s Golf Team Takes Home Another Championship

NO. 4 MEN’S GOLF WINS TEAM, INDIVIDUAL TITLES AT THOMAS UNIVERSITY FALL INVITE

VALDOSTA, Ga. – With two tournaments into the fall season, No. 4 Coastal Georgia men’s golf has already earned its second tournament team title as well second individual medalist honors.

The Mariners fired a 12-under 276 during the final round of the Thomas University Fall Invitational on Tuesday in order to win the 36-hole tournament with a two-day score of 11-under 565 (289 + 276). Coastal Georgia’s 12-under round on Tuesday is the lowest round-to-par in program history. Additionally, Coastal Georgia was the only team to have a round under-par for the entire tournament.

Meanwhile, Mark David Johnson had the day’s lowest round score in order to edge out Thomas’ Sam Ledbury for the top individual spot. Johnson, who shot a 5-under 67 on Tuesday, won the tournament with a two-round score of 7-under 137 (70 + 67). It is Johnson’s second individual win this fall season, and the fourth of his Coastal Georgia career.

Three other Mariners also recorded under-par rounds on Tuesday. Eli Scott had a 3-under 69 during Tuesday’s play, and entered the clubhouse in third place with a 5-under 139 (70 + 39). Jackson Lawlor shot a 2-under 70 in the final round, and finished the tournament tied for sixth place with at even-par (74 + 70). Chip Thompsonalso shot a 2-under 70 on Tuesday, which was a nine-stroke improvement from Monday’s first round. Thompson ended in a four-way tie for 20th with a two-round score of 5-over 149 (79 + 70). Meanwhile, Kyle Kidd rounded out the Mariners in a tie for 39th with a 10-over 154 (75 + 79).

Coastal Georgia returns to action next week with the 54-hole USCB Sand Shark Fall Invitational in Tarpon Springs, Fla. The tournament will be played at the Innisbrook Resort – Copperhead Course next Monday and Tuesday.
