Polly Cox, wife of Coach Gerald Cox who passed in 2020, has donated $5,000 to start the Coach Cox Memorial Scholarship for Men’s Basketball at the College of Coastal Georgia.

The purpose of the Coach Cox Memorial Scholarship is to honor the memory of legendary Coach Gerald Cox and his service to the Men’s Basketball program by supporting Men’s Basketball student-athletes who embody what he tried to instill in the young men he coached. The Coach Gerald Cox Memorial Scholarship will be presented to Student-Athletes at the College of Coastal Georgia who embody the Athletics Department’s S.A.I.L.S. motto (Scholarship, Athletic Excellence, Integrity, Leadership and Sportsmanship) and maintain a 3.0 GPA.

When asked how Coach Cox would feel knowing that he’s still making an impact on student-athletes, his wife answered that he would be surprised.

“He was always humbled by the accolades that he received, and he would like this,” she said. “I have saved most of his money and this is a way I think he would be very happy to have it used. Spending money to honor him is what I want to do.”

Polly Cox, is challenging all who knew or were touched by Coach Cox to give in honor of his legacy. Every dollar counts in the lives of a student, and no amount is too small to change a life.
