Late Night Breakfast a Huge Success, Kicks Off Finals Week at CCGA

The College of Coastal Georgia kicked off finals week with its bi-annual Late Night Breakfast Tuesday, filling bellies and de-stressing the minds of students preparing for exams.

Every semester before final exams start, faculty, staff and various student organizations serve students a breakfast buffet at the Mariners Galley. This year, the Office of Student Life wanted a larger crowd and to heighten students’ energy with a winter wonderland theme. Their efforts paid off as the anticipation and frenzy prior to the opening traveled throughout the College’s Campus Center.

Allison Lyon, assistant dean of Student Life, was no rookie when it came to coordinating this event. She previously worked as the assistant director of Student Life at Armstrong State University, located in Savannah, Georgia.

“I actually coordinated Late Night Breakfast there [at Armstrong State] except this school has a lot bigger of a turnout and a lot more hype from the students. I love that we have student government, Overboard Entertainment, Biology Club, resident life and housing helping to put this event together,” she said. “This event is really owned by the students. They are the ones that really bring the energy and the excitement. We just had to make sure that Aladdin [Coastal Georgia’s food service provider] brought all the food for us and have faculty and staff to help out with serving. Because this event had already been established, it makes it one of the most successful traditions on this campus.”

Alexis Bell, a graduating business student and Student Life assistant specializing in College traditions, also helped coordinate the event. She experienced her last Late Night Breakfast hanging out with friends to de-stress before starting her last undergrad final exams.

“It feels great with this being the last Late Night Breakfast that I’m a part of. I’ve gone to all of them since I’ve been at Coastal and so coming to the last one is kind of nostalgic. Being able to help plan it was even better this year and it’s been a fun process. It’s definitely a good way to help students relax before a stressful week of finals,” Bell said.

In addition to having breakfast, there were several additional festivities planned including goodie bag giveaways, karaoke hosted by Student Government and Overboard Entertainment, a Biology Club Snow Slime booth and a hot chocolate bar. An Ugly Sweater Contest was also held with two winners, Josh Ball as the Students’ Choice and Jazmyne Cain as the Faculty’s Choice.

Students were riled up and having a great time dancing and singing songs along with the faculty. The tradition is expected to continue next semester and for many years to come!
