Glynn County school nurses polish their skills

Brunswick, GA – Faculty and staff from all schools and departments of the Brunswick campus and the Camden Center gathered Wednesday morning, January 7, at the Southeast Georgia Conference Center to launch the new year and the spring term. The morning included three training modules, a preview of the College website redesign, the announcement of the 2014-2015 Advisor of the Year, highlights of the past term and themes for the coming year.

In opening remarks, College President Greg Aloia touched on such topics as expansion of college-community engagement; the importance of retention, progression and timely graduation as the new normal within the University System of Georgia; continuing development of an expanded campus strategic plan; challenges of student indebtedness; record level of faculty and staff investment in the College Foundation; and campus safety.

New employees were introduced and several departments, faculty, and staff members were recognized for innovations in curriculum and student programs, creative solutions to challenges, and increased efficiencies in operations.

One of the highlights of the assembly was the announcement of the 2014-2015 Academic Advisor of the Year: Dawana Gibbs, Associate Professor of Nursing, School of Nursing and Health Sciences.

Training presentations on Title IX, the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, and emergency preparedness completed the morning.

Classes resume on Monday, January 12.
