Brunswick, Ga., Oct. 6, 2017 — Today, the state’s largest power company, Georgia Power, presented a check for $25,000 to the College of Coastal Georgia Foundation to fund the Georgia Power STEM Impact Program at the College. The new multi-faceted, broad-based impact program will fund equipment, programing, and facilities for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) instruction.
“An investment in the College is an investment in the future of our community,” said Paulo Albuquerque, Brunswick-area manager for Georgia Power. “Georgia Power welcomes the opportunity to partner with the College of Coastal Georgia to prepare the generation of professionals in the STEM fields.”
Accepting the check on behalf of the Foundation and the College were Foundation Chairman Wayne Johnson; Dr. Meg Amstutz, Interim President of the College; Dr. German Vargas, Assistant Vice President for Academic Student Engagement and Associate Mathematics Professor; and Vice President for Advancement Kevin Salaway (pictured above with Albuquerque).
“STEM education is critical to the success of the Golden Isles community and our nation,” said Amstutz. “We are grateful to Georgia Power for its commitment to our students and to the future of our community.”
The College of Coastal Georgia Foundation develops resources to support the College in providing quality education to its students. The Foundation also serves as an advocate within the Coastal Georgia community to further the goals of the College.
