Ethics Awareness Week at the College to Highlight Core Values

While in pursuit of creating a more educated Georgia, the University System of Georgia (USG) commits itself to the highest ethical and professional standards of conduct. One way the USG demonstrates this commitment is through the annual Ethics Awareness Week, celebrated system-wide. Ethics Awareness Week will take place this year from November 11-17. During this special week, the College of Coastal Georgia will host activities to further the College’s and USG’s efforts to promote an ethical culture.

USG Chancellor Steve Wrigley has emphasized how critical an ethical culture is to the success of not only USG institutions, but also of employees, students, communities, and ultimately of Georgia.

The highlight of Ethics Awareness Week at Coastal Georgia will be a guest speaker, Federal Law Enforcement Training Center Director Thomas Walters, on Thursday, November 15. Community members, students, and employees are invited to attend Walter’s address on ethical leadership, to be held at Stembler Theatre inside the Campus Center from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Walters was selected as the sixth director of FLETC in October 2017. Walters oversees all operations related to the development and delivery of collaborative law enforcement training for more than 95 federal partner organizations across four FLETC domestic training sites; for state, local, and tribal departments throughout the U.S.; and outside the nation’s borders through international training and capacity-building efforts. Prior to becoming the director of FLETC, Walters established a border security consulting service after nearly 30 years with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP). He began his career as a border patrol agent in El Paso, Texas in 1975, and went on to hold several leadership positions with CBP.

“Ethics Awareness Week is a great way to communicate with our employees and community that we care and are committed to ethical conduct,” said Dr. Michelle Johnston, president of the College of Coastal Georgia. “The week’s activities will build upon the already existing ethical culture, while recognizing the hard work of employees.”

Ethics Awareness Week will also include daily trivia games, raffles, a movie night, and more.
