The College of Coastal Georgia’s Cyber Defense team has made a name for itself in the National Cyber League, placing in the top five percent of teams nationwide. The team placed 54 out of 1068 teams.  This achievement is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the team members and the quality of the College’s cyber defense program. The members of team “$grep ‘A-Team’ @CCGA” were Athen Taylor, Peyton Garris, Gavin Noktes, Wes Baird Lillie Logue, Bryce Edwards, and Hannah Veazey.

The National Cyber League is a biannual competition that challenges participants with a series of cybersecurity challenges, ranging from cryptography and web application security to network analysis and digital forensics. The competition is open to high school and college students, as well as cybersecurity professionals.

Three other teams from the College also participated in the competition. They finished 255th, 334th and 455th on the weekend of November 4-6, 2022.

“We are incredibly proud of our students and their performance in the National Cyber League,” said Dr. Skip Mounts, dean of the School of Business and Public Management. “Their success is a testament to their hard work and the quality of teaching from Dr. Nelbert ‘Doc’ St. Clair.”

The College of Coastal Georgia’s success in the National Cyber League is just the latest achievement for the college’s cybersecurity program. Last year, the program was designated as a National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense Education by the National Security Agency and the Department of Homeland Security. The designation recognizes institutions that have met rigorous standards for cybersecurity education.

“Our goal is to prepare our students for successful careers in cybersecurity and contribute to the cyber community local and nationally,” said St. Clair, assistant professor of cyber defense. “I am proud of the work that our students are doing, and look forward to continuing to build on our success.”
