The College of Coastal Georgia has been awarded the University System of Georgia’s Chancellor’s Cup for the third semester in a row. The Chancellor’s Cup is given to the institution in its sector with the highest increase in full-time equivalent (FTE). The College won for the state colleges sector with an increase of 7.8 percent compared to Spring 2024.

The winners were announced during the April Board of Regents meeting, where USG Chancellor Sonny Perdue shared that the new criteria for the award shifted from student headcount to an FTE model. Under this new methodology, the College still remained the top winner for its sector.

“We are incredibly proud to be a three-time winner of this award. This achievement reflects our students’ dedication to their academic journey, and also our faculty and staff. They continue to work diligently in supporting students and enhancing our academic programming,” said College of Coastal Georgia President Dr. Johnny L. Evans Jr.

The College is currently on track for another FTE increase of approximately 13.24 percent for the upcoming summer semester. Evans hopes that another win of the Chancellor’s Cup is in the College’s future.

“Even during the summer months, the College remains a vibrant learning environment, where every student is encouraged to explore their interests and take advantage of the many opportunities we have to offer,” Evans said.

One of the newest academic programs for the summer is the Scientific Diving Certificate Program that was introduced to the College last year. The program trains and prepares students for careers utilizing scientific diving skills through student-centered, experiential learning. Students obtain dive training which enables them to become certified as a scientific diver. This experience will not only expand students’ academic learning, but will also open a new pathway for future career opportunities.
