Brunswick, GA – When College President Greg Aloia joined forces with VALOR, the campus support group for military veterans attending the College, and the Office of Enrollment Management to create a veterans-friendly campus community, goals included establishing on-campus veterans’ lounges as well as simplifying the application process for college enrollment and financial aid. The Office of Financial Aid and Veterans Affairs was developed, an admissions counselor specializing in military and veterans affairs was designated, and a veterans’ lounge opened last April on the Brunswick campus.

With the ribbon cutting for the new veterans’ lounge in the Camden Center on April 29, Dr. Aloia will celebrate the fruition of that joint vision. The community is invited to join the celebration.

“The College of Coastal Georgia has a long-standing relationship with the Kings Bay naval base and the military community in Camden County which began with offering classes on the base in 1983 and was a key factor in the Camden Center being built eleven years ago in Kingsland,” Dr. Aloia said. “From the beginning of our discussions, we wanted the Camden Center to offer the same welcoming environment we were able to create on the larger Brunswick campus. This ribbon cutting represents another milestone achieved in our mission to continue to be a veteran-friendly college in the University System of Georgia.”

The veterans’ lounge ribbon cutting ceremony on the first floor of the Camden Center will begin at noon on Wednesday, April 29. Kimberly Burgess, Admissions Counselor for Military and Veterans Affairs, will serve as the emcee for the occasion. Greetings of celebration will be offered by College student and military veteran Jason Dominici; Joseph Lodmell, College instructor and Captain, U.S. Navy (Retired), and Dr. Aloia.

A reception will immediately follow the ceremony. The Camden Center is located at 800 Lakes Boulevard East with easy access from I-95 via Exit 6, Laurel Island Parkway, then right on Wildcat Boulevard and left on Lakes Boulevard East.
