College to hold Nursing, Radiology Pinning Ceremonies

On Friday, May 10, the Department of Nursing and Health Sciences at the College of Coastal Georgia will host its annual pinning ceremonies and honor society inductions. Each program—Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN), and Associate of Science in Radiologic Sciences—will have its own separate ceremonies. Pinning ceremonies date back to the 1860s when Florence Nightingale was awarded the Red Cross of St. George for her work and dedication during the Crimean War. She then began to present medals of excellence to her finest graduates. Pinning ceremonies have become a time-honored tradition at the College in which nursing and radiologic science graduates are welcomed into the healthcare profession.

ASN and radiology will also induct the first classes into their respective honor societies, the Zeta Gamma Chapter of Alpha Delta Nu and the Phi Tau Honor Society. BSN inducted its first class into the College of Coastal Georgia Nursing Honor Society in 2016. Honor societies recognize the superior academic attainment of students. Nursing and radiologic sciences programs are very challenging and the students who have dedicated the past two or four years to honing their craft will be honored for their accomplishments. The receptions for each program will be catered by culinary arts faculty from the College.
