The College of Coastal Georgia Department of Natural Sciences is proud to host the 10th annual Coastal Science Symposium on Friday, Dec. 5, from 8:30 a.m. to noon at the Campus Center on the Brunswick campus.

The symposium celebrates student research, hands-on learning, conservation, and education. The event brings together students, faculty, collaborators, and community members to showcase the vibrant scientific work happening along Georgia’s coast. Attendees will have the opportunity to explore student poster presentations highlighting research and experiential learning in biology, health, environmental science, data science, and more. Regional partners will also present educational exhibits and opportunities to get involved in coastal science and conservation.

The keynote speaker is Dr. John Carroll, professor of biology and interim director of the Institute for Coastal Plain Science at Georgia Southern University. Carroll’s Restoration and Benthic Ecology Lab seeks to bridge the gap between ecological studies and applied science. The lab focuses on economically important shellfish species, including oysters, as model organisms to answer ecological questions with the goal of improving management and restoration efforts.

This year marks the 10th meeting of the symposium. Since its inception, more than 350 Coastal Georgia students have presented their experiential learning in biology and environmental science to the broader community. The symposium provides students an opportunity to not only communicate and reflect upon their impactful research and service-learning activities, but also build confidence to present their work at regional and national conferences and prepare for graduate school and careers in science.

The symposium is free and open to the public—no registration is required. Visitors may park next to the Campus Center, accessed via the main campus entrance on Altama Avenue. More information is available at www.ccga.edu/coastalscience.
