Brunswick, GA – The College of Coastal Georgia School of Nursing and Health Sciences is celebrating some good news. The May graduating class of 2014 nurses earning BSN degrees – 21 students – achieved a 100% pass rate on the Georgia Board of Nursing’s licensure exam and the 41 ASN graduates achieved 92.3%.

“These are some of the highest scores in the University System of Georgia,” exclaimed Curt Spires, ASN Program Coordinator and Assistant Professor of Nursing, “It has been almost a decade since we’ve seen scores of this caliber.”

Patricia Kraft, the Southeast Georgia Health System Distinguished Dean of Nursing and Health Sciences for the School, agreed. “This is particularly noteworthy for our BSN program, which was inaugurated in 2009 and produced our first graduates in 2011.”

Spires and Kraft attributed several changes in the nursing program to producing the high results, including curriculum redesign and new faculty. “These improved scores demonstrate that the program changes have been effective,” Kraft said.

According to Spires, over 95% of Coastal Georgia’s May 2014 nursing graduates who sought employment have jobs. “And 100% of those who applied for jobs received offers,” he added.
