The College of Coastal Georgia has once again been recognized as one of the nation’s most veteran-friendly institutions, earning a spot on Military Times’ 2025 Best for Vets: Colleges list, the largest and most comprehensive ranking of schools committed to supporting military service members, veterans, and their families.

This marks the 11th consecutive year the College has received this honor, demonstrating its dedication to providing resources and programs that help veterans succeed academically and personally. Military Times evaluates colleges based on factors such as student success, financial assistance, military-specific resources, and overall support services.

“We’re honored to be recognized as a Best for Vets college of the 11th year in a row,” said Dr. Jason Umfress, vice president for student affairs and enrollment management. “Our veterans bring extraordinary strength, leadership, and perspective to Coastal Georgia, and we’re grateful for their service—both to our nation and to our campus.”

The College offers a range of services tailored to veterans, including:

  • Veterans study lounges at both the Brunswick campus and Camden Center.
  • Veterans Academic Learning Opportunities and Resources (VALOR), a student organization that fosters community and engagement.
  • Dedicated veteran services staff who assist with tutoring, counseling, financial aid, and VA education benefits.
  • Annual events such as the Veterans Day Ceremony, honoring those who have served.

On the Brunswick campus, the Veterans’ Lounge is located in the Student Activity Center

VALOR hosted its annual Veterans Day Ceremony in November at the flagpole, along the pedestrian mall.

Dr. Scott Argo, assistant vice president for recruitment and admissions, said that the campus community works hard to make sure veterans are supported from their first conversation with the College through graduation.

“Veterans add incredible value to our campus community, and we want them to know they have a place here at Coastal Georgia,” Argo said. “We are eager to provide the guidance, resources, and opportunities they need to succeed as they work toward their degree.”

The Best for Vets rankings serve as a trusted resource for veterans seeking schools that prioritize their success. More than 350 institutions were included in this year’s list, reflecting a growing nationwide commitment to veteran education.
