BRUNSWICK, Ga., Sept. 14, 2017 – The College of Coastal Georgia will re-open its Brunswick residence halls on Friday, Sept. 15 at 3 p.m. and will resume classes at both the Brunswick campus and the Kingsland, Ga.-based Camden Center on Monday, Sept. 18 at 7 a.m.

“Our priority leading up to, during, and following this terrible storm has been the safety and wellbeing of our students, faculty, and staff. We made the decision to reopen the campus after confirming that our grounds and facilities will be safe for our students,” said College of Coastal Georgia Interim President Meg Amstutz. “We know that this storm has disrupted the lives of everyone in our community. While recovery efforts will undoubtedly continue for a while to come, we plan to begin to return to the primary work of the College—educating students.”

While residence halls will open this Friday at 3 p.m., students may elect to return throughout the weekend. The College closed at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 7 to allow adequate time for students, faculty, and staff to evacuate the area in advance of Hurricane Irma and has remained closed ever since.

“I want to thank our College of Coastal Georgia facilities team, grounds crew and IT staff for their diligent and swift efforts that will make it possible for us to reopen and resume classes,” said Amstutz. “In addition, I am grateful for the efforts of city and county personnel, and utility company crews, for their help in clearing roadways, restoring power, ensuring our access to potable water, and protecting our community throughout this difficult time. The entire College of Coastal Georgia community thanks you.”
