BRUNSWICK, GA, APRIL 6, 2018 —The work of some of the brightest students at College of Coastal Georgia will be on display at the fourth-annual Symposium on Undergraduate Research and Collaborative Exploration (SOURCE) conference. The research conference will be held Friday, April 13, at the Southeast Georgia Conference Center beginning at 10 a.m.
The SOURCE event is an annual campus-wide forum in which students from all disciplines present their faculty-mentored research and scholarship projects. This year’s conference will have 62 student presenters sharing a total of 35 research projects composed of 30 research posters and five oral presentations. The conference is free and open to the public. Community members are encouraged to attend and talk with students about their research.
The research posters will be on display in the lobby of the Southeast Georgia Conference Center, where student researchers and faculty sponsors will be available to discuss their work and answer questions. The poster session will take place from 10 a.m. to 11:15 a.m.
Following the poster session, five student groups will offer oral presentations. Students will discuss their projects and share research results. Oral presentations will occur from 11:20 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the Satilla, Altamaha, and Jericho rooms of the Conference Center.
Dr. Kimberly Mannahan, director of Service-Learning and Undergraduate Research, said an increasing number of students are conducting original research across many disciplines at the College.
“Many of these students have presented their research at regional, national, and international conferences. The students are proud of their work and SOURCE is an opportunity for them to showcase their accomplishments locally—to friends, family, and their community,” Mannahan said. “Being involved in undergraduate research fosters creativity, critical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and intellectual independence. The Undergraduate Research Conference is a place where students can demonstrate those abilities while building their professional presentation skills and enhancing their academic and professional credentials.”
