The College of Coastal Georgia has joined the Georgia Climate Project, a non-partisan, state-wide consortium dedicated to improving the understanding of climate change impacts and solutions in Georgia. Coastal Georgia joins 10 other organizations in the state, including Emory University, Georgia Institute of Technology, University of Georgia, Agnes Scott College, Columbus State University, Georgia Southern University, Spelman College, Life University, University of North Georgia, and Georgia State University.

The Georgia Climate Project (GCP) tackles climate change challenges in the state by asking, “What does a changing climate mean for Georgia, and what can we do about it?” GCP is creating solutions specific to Georgia and its unique environmental, social, and economic conditions by advancing climate science, building more robust conversations, and creating a stronger network.

Coastal Georgia’s affiliation with GCP as an academic partner aligns with the College’s mission of excellence in scholarship and community engagement. At the heart of the mission is a responsibility to address local needs through applied scholarship and public service. A relationship with the GCP will help promote this by connecting faculty, staff, and students with an extensive network of scholars and leaders in the field of climate science.

Dr. James Deemy and Dr. Heather Farley will lead the College in their partnership with GCP. Deemy is an assistant professor, hydrologist, and the Environmental Science Program Coordinator in the Department of Natural Sciences at the College of Coastal Georgia. Farley is chair of the Department of Criminal Justice, Public Policy and Management. Her research focuses on sustainability and environmental policy.
