Brunswick, GA – Members of the community are invited to join students, faculty and staff for a lively conversation as the Brown Family Endowed Executive-in-Residence to the School of Business and Public Affairs, Reg Murphy, interviews Mayor Cornell Harvey one-on-one. The fourth Coastal Conversations on Leadership will be held on Tuesday, April 21 from 6-7 p.m. in the Stembler Theatre of the Campus Center.
The discussion will explore the guest’s views on leadership, according to Dr. Jim Fullerton, Assistant Professor of Management and emcee of the event.
“”Although both gentlemen will be sitting comfortably in easy chairs on center stage, that doesn’t mean Reg won’t be asking some hard questions,”” Dr. Skip Mounts, Dean of the School of Business and Public Affairs, said. “”In this series, we talk with community leaders about leadership, their life experiences, and their role in the development of the Golden Isles. Mayor Harvey is the first African American to serve as mayor of Brunswick – a milestone for this community. He has a vision for ‘Building a Better Brunswick’ and for revitalizing a vibrant downtown. Reg has more than enough material, between the mayor’s life, his vision, and the post-Great Recession realities of this city, to inspire an insightful and entertaining dialogue.””
A native of Brunswick, Mayor Harvey has served on the City Council since 2003. He earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Maryland, his master’s from Troy University, and is a retired United States Air Force Chief Master Sergeant. In addition to serving on numerous boards, he is a member of Fourteen Black Men of Glynn, an organization which provides leadership training to rising sixth grade African American male students and mentors them through their progression and graduation from college.
