The College of Coastal Georgia has partnered with EC-Council Academia to help bridge the cybersecurity talent gap. Data security is vital to national defense and millions of cybersecurity jobs go unfilled each year. The partnership provides Coastal Georgia with key components needed to launch a successful new cyber defense program, including:

  • Developing cybersecurity initiatives state and region wide, resulting in more secure academic communities.
  • High-level program integration at all degree levels with stackable credentials, resulting in stronger cybersecurity program outcomes.
  • Sponsorship of academic cyber camps, clubs, and competitions to engage continued education and critical thinking skills.
  • Developing new, innovative standards of cybersecurity education with hands-on learning to provide the most intense aspects of on-the-job training and career readiness.
  • Facilitating nationally ranked conferences and collegiate cyber competitions.

College of Coastal Georgia Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Johnny Evans said, “I understand starting a new cyber defense program is challenging. We have the opportunity to make Coastal Georgia’s program a model program. Our goal is to increase cyber awareness in the coastal region and graduate cyber analysts who are workforce ready with industry certifications.”

Director of Academics for EC-Council Wesley Alvarez reached out to Dr. Nelbert St. Clair, assistant professor of Cyber Defense and Criminal Justice for the School of Business and Public Management, with an offer for a Faculty Scholarship and Student Experience class supporting the EC-Council’s brand new Certified SOC Analyst (CSA) certification. This scholarship will provide eBooks and iLabs for the first group of graduating seniors in the cyber defense concentration.

St. Clair and Alvarez have been working on ways to draw attention to Coastal Georgia’s cybersecurity program. Plans to host a cyber conference and cyber competition at the College are underway.
