Brunswick, GA – A Memorandum of Understanding signed today between the College of Coastal Georgia and the American College of Greece opens the door to new international educational opportunities for students, faculty and staff of both institutions.
“We look forward to partnering with an amazing institution – the oldest American college in Europe. Our respective colleges share the same goals of providing students with a transformative global experience – one that will enable them to become citizens of the world when they graduate – and of offering faculty an opportunity to work collaboratively on different scholarship initiatives,” Coastal Georgia President Greg Aloia said during the signing.
According to Dr. Jim Lynch, Director of Institutional Effectiveness and Fulbright Program Adviser for Coastal Georgia, the agreement will facilitate the exchange of undergraduate students, faculty and staff between the two colleges, foster joint research projects, and encourage the development of tailored programs of study. Dr. Lynch, who grew up in Athens, Greece, visited the American College of Greece (ACG) in May 2014 as part of a student recruitment tour of secondary and post-secondary institutions in Athens and Patras.
“The American College of Greece is the largest comprehensive, private, American-sponsored college in Europe,” Dr. Lynch noted. “They offer over 1,000 courses every year with a student-faculty ratio of 17:1 and about 2,500 undergraduate students from 50 countries.”
The 64-acre main campus of ACG is located in Aghia Paraskevi, a suburb of Athens. Accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges, the college offers 20 undergraduate majors and 17 graduate degree programs, according to their website. ACG currently has exchange agreements with institutions such as Agnes Scott College, Boston University, Cornell University, Duke, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Emory Goizueta School of Business, Seattle University, Texas A&M, State University of New York in Oneonta, UNC Chapel Hill, the European Study Center in Heidelberg, John Cabot University in Rome, and Istanbul Aydin University.
