CCGA names dean for school of arts and sciences

Víctor Vega has been selected to serve as College of Coastal Georgia’s dean of the school of arts and sciences.
“Víctor is not only a widely respected leader on our campus,” said CCGA President Greg Aloia. “He brings with him a breadth of knowledge and more than 20 years’ experience in higher education that has and will continue to advance the college.”
Vega has been the interim dean since fall 2015. He has served as an associate professor for seven years, among other leadership roles, in the department of mathematics. He was instrumental in the creation of the bachelor’s degree in mathematics.
“Dr. Vega’s passion, energy and commitment to expanding the horizons of our students has had a demonstrable impact in the transformation of this college, and I am looking forward to working closely with him as we move the college forward,” said Meg Amstutz, who will begin her role as CCGA’s interim president on July 1.
Vega helped lead the college’s low- or no-cost textbook initiative, has founded multiple student clubs and serves as a member on several advisory committees, national organizations and the Theta Iota Chapter of Phi Beta Delta, an honors society for international scholars.
Vega will take over the permanent position as dean on July 1.
“This is a humbling and unique opportunity to move the school of arts and sciences and the college to the next level,” Vega said. “The opportunities awaiting us are unimaginable and I am looking forward to working with Dr. Amstutz and all CCGA constituents to make CCGA one of the best colleges in Georgia and beyond. I am proud to serve with such a fine group of colleagues.”
