Brunswick, GA – A new report compiled by the U.S. News and World Report is confirming what many already know: The College of Coastal Georgia is one of the most affordable four-year public institutions in the country.

In its most recent report, U.S. News examined data from nearly 300 schools nationally and found that Coastal Georgia charges the second most economical amount in tuition and fees for any public baccalaureate granting institution in the United States for the 2016-2017 school year.

Tuition and fees at Coastal College are set at $4,434 for full-time students from Georgia, Florida, South Carolina and Alabama – a stark contrast to the $5,600 students pay a year in tuition and fees at other four-year public institutions.

“Our mission here at Coastal Georgia is to ensure that our students have access to a wide array of high-quality, affordable learning opportunities that are unencumbered by increasing expenses and debilitating debt. And I believe we are succeeding in doing just that,” said CCGA President Greg Aloia.

Nearly 60 percent of college freshmen attend a four-year public institution within 100 miles of their permanent home, according to a survey conducted by the Higher Education Research Institute at the University of California-Los Angeles. Sadly, in-state tuition and fees at a four-year school can range from slightly more than $4,150 to more than $18,500 annually, as stated by data collected by U.S. News for use in its annual survey.

“Making college opportunities affordable is at the heart of our mission, but ensuring that students are inspired to learn and achieve in ways that change the course of future generations is deeply rooted in our approaches to instructional excellence,” noted Dr. Tracy Pellett, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs.

“While our commitment to affordability is paramount, our focus on academic quality and student success is second to none. CCGA is the type of educational setting where professors know the names of their students and work with them through applied activities and experiences to develop real world skills and employability,” Pellett said.

With student indebtedness as one of the most pressing concerns facing higher education today, the College has successfully implemented several initiatives that have helped generate savings to students totaling more than $1.8 million. From reducing the cost of textbooks and lowering student fees, to streamlining graduation requirements, Aloia asserts that Coastal Georgia is serious about doing all it can to help make college affordable for its students.

“Every day we are doing things that are helping our students be successful and, in turn, helping our community prosper. The successful launch of these initiatives has made CCGA a more viable option for those who are looking to take advantage of in-state tuition, but it has also made the College a leader across the State in helping to reduce the cost of going to college,” Aloia said.

This is the third consecutive time Coastal Georgia has been recognized for a distinction by the U.S. News and World Report within the year. Last September, the College was named one of the Best Regional Public Colleges in the South, ranking seventh among all public state and regional colleges in 12 southern states. In January, the College was named one of the Top 10 low-cost online baccalaureate programs for out-of-state students.
