For the second consecutive year, the College of Coastal Georgia has received recognition as a “Best for Vets” college by Military Times. Among the 500 colleges and universities that took part in the Military Times’ “Best for Vets: Colleges 2017” survey, the College is ranked 51st, improving its previous national ranking of 62 by approximately 18%. In Georgia, CCGA is ranked 4th best among four-year schools.

The Military Times announced its “Best for Vets: Colleges 2017” ranking November 1. The editorially independent news project factored in a comprehensive school-by-school survey of veteran and military student offerings and rates of academic achievement.

The annual survey assessed the College’s culture of support, emphasizing the Veterans Lounge, financial aid services, academic tutoring and advising, and VALOR (Veterans Academic Learning Opportunities and Resources).

“This designation affirms that CCGA is upholding the highest Principles of Excellence (U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs) and 8 Keys to Veterans’ Success (U.S. Department of Education), and are building a culture on both CCGA campuses in Brunswick and Camden that is welcoming and supportive to all military students,” said Kimberly Burgess, Admissions Counselor for Adult, Military and Transfer Students.

Military veterans remain a high-priority for College of Coastal Georgia President Greg Aloia, and he is seeing to it that they receive the education that they so rightfully deserve.

“Receiving the ‘Best for Vets’ designation for a second year underscores the College’s commitment to serve military and veteran students at our campuses while honoring their service,” said CCGA President Aloia.

It is even more evident at the Camden Center in Kingsland.

“We are very committed to assisting the veteran student population in balancing their work-school life challenges by providing flexible schedules through our online and Brunswick-to-Camden synchronous classes. We have also enhanced our tutoring and advising services by adding additional staff to provide support,” stated Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Tracy Pellett.

“The College of Coastal Georgia will continue to move forward and enhance our military-friendly culture and levels of support for our military student population,” Burgess added. “Our goal is to create a culture that eliminates hurdles in the enrollment process for military students and allows them to successfully pursue their academic goals and graduate on time at CCGA.”

The rankings are published online at MilitaryTimes.com, ArmyTimes.com, NavyTimes.com, AirForceTimes.com and MarineCorpsTimes.com. It will appear in a Military Times’ special magazine issue sometime this month.
