The College of Coastal Georgia is proud to announce its eighth annual Coastal Scholars Conference, celebrating academic excellence, research and creativity. The conference is set for Thursday, Feb. 5, and Friday, Feb. 6, from 9:30 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. each day. This year’s theme, “Navigators of Knowledge and Facilitators of Learning,” brings together students, faculty, and community members to explore innovative ideas and impactful scholarship.
Coastal Scholars is a two-day interdisciplinary conference featuring research presentations, workshops, and performances from Coastal’s faculty. Discussions will span a wide range of disciplines, including communication, history, criminal justice, mathematics, literature and film.
The conference is hosted by the Faculty Support Committee of the College’s Faculty Senate. Dr. Savannah Downing, assistant professor of communication, serves as chair of the committee. Downing said she believes the event is an important opportunity for the community to engage with faculty scholarship.
“Coastal Scholars is such an amazing way for our students, colleagues, and community members to learn more about our exceptionally talented teacher-scholars,” Downing said. “Attendees will have a chance to hear research panels representative of a range of disciplines, engage in pedagogy workshops, and even watch and discuss films produced by both our faculty and film course students. As a bonus, refreshments will be prepared by our very own culinary arts students. All in all, there’s something for everyone!”
The conference is free and open to the public. Attendees will have the opportunity to participate in meaningful conversations, share ideas, and discuss research.
