Milton H. “Woody” Woodside Entrepreneur and Leadership Endowed Scholarship

In memory of Milton Henry “Woody” Woodside, the Golden Isles community has come together to honor his lifetime of accomplishments and contributions to the economic development of our region by establishing an endowed scholarship to support students pursuing areas of leadership and entrepreneurship.

Woody made Brunswick his home in 1973, and in 1985, he accepted the position of President of the Brunswick-Golden Isles Chamber of Commerce. He served in this role with distinction for 34 years until his retirement in 2019. Under his leadership, many projects came to fruition, propelling Brunswick and the Golden Isles to new heights. Woody’s efforts were instrumental in the development of the Sidney Lanier Bridge, the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center, and the deepening of the Brunswick Harbor.

Woody’s commitment extended beyond infrastructural developments. His unwavering support of the Southeast Georgia Health System, the College of Coastal Georgia, the Jekyll Island Foundation, and the Rotary Club significantly bolstered these institutions’ ability to serve the community. He also founded the Leadership Glynn Program, which continues to cultivate future leaders of Glynn County. Furthermore, Woody played a pivotal role in establishing and promoting Glynn County’s robust tourism industry.

The Milton H. “Woody” Woodside Entrepreneur and Leadership Endowed Scholarship will support students who embody the leadership and entrepreneurial spirit that Woody was known for in our community. By fostering these qualities in future generations, we aim to perpetuate Woody’s legacy in the Golden Isles.
