Dr. Jason Umfress, vice president for student affairs and enrollment management at the College of Coastal Georgia, will mentor student affairs professionals at the 2018 NASPA Region III/SACSA New Professionals Institute.

Umfress will be joined by six other seasoned administrators from across the southeast to lead participants through five days of intensive training. The New Professionals Institute will be held June 2-7 at the University of North Carolina Charlotte and is co-sponsored by the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA) Region III and the Southern Association of College Student Affairs.

The training will cover a variety of topics including leadership, diversity and inclusion, career and life planning, critical and current issues in higher education, professional standards, and navigating the politics of higher education. Participants will be student affairs professionals who have been in the field for five years or fewer, and will represent all areas of student affairs, such as orientation, counseling, international services, and student activities. The institute is a training ground for rising stars in the profession and a form of recognition for outstanding new professionals.

“I am honored to have been selected to serve on the NPI faculty,” said Umfress. “I have been so fortunate to have had good practitioners and mentors help me achieve my professional goals, and I’m delighted to be able to honor them by giving back to the profession in this way.”

Umfress will serve on the NPI faculty for two years.
