Registration is now open for the Move On When Ready program, which offers local students the opportunity to earn college credit before graduating high school.
“Students at the high schools are now going through the process of picking out classes for the fall semester next year,” said Linell Bailey, the Move On When Ready coordinator at College of Coastal Georgia. “They’re starting to talk with their guidance counselors at the high schools, and students are able to select the Move On When Ready program, if they want to participate.”
CCGA will be holding registration events at Camden High School on Tuesday, Thursday and March 14 and 16 from 3:30-7 p.m.
The Move On When Ready program allows Georgia students to dual enroll in high school and a postsecondary institution. The students take postsecondary coursework for credit that applies to both their high school graduation and college requirements.
The program is offered during summer, fall and spring semesters.
Eligible students must be enrolled in ninth, 10th, 11th or 12th grade.
To apply, students are required to have either an SAT combined score of a total of 970, with a score of 500 in at least one section, or a composite score of 20 on the ACT.
Students must also have a 3.0 grade point average in a rigorous course of study at their high school.
“We work closely with the high school counselors to make sure students are taking classes that will count as college credits and satisfy for transfers,” Bailey said.
Homeschool students are also eligible for the program.
Bailey said the program is beneficial for students looking to earn college credits.
“It also paves the way for future success,” he said. “We have a number of students who decide to continue here at CCGA with their education, because the college environment they’re in and the quality of instruction they’re receiving.”
Move On When Ready prepares students for college work, before they have even left high school.
“Students who are in the Move On When Ready program are fully eligible to participate in all activities here at the college,” Bailey said. “We encourage them to join clubs and be a part of the campus and take advantage of all the student activities and services the college has to offer.”
