On Thursday, May 17, Interim President Meg Amstutz of the College of Coastal Georgia and Superintendent Virgil Cole signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to continue its REACH program for another year. REACH, an acronym for Reaching Educational and Career Heights, is designed for young adults (aged 18-21) with intellectual disabilities. Participants, who are required to have successfully completed high school and three years of job-readiness training, prepare for future employment through assessment and instruction both in the classroom and in an on-campus work environment. The collaboration promotes the advancement of knowledge and skill in the areas of independence, social skills, academic skills, and career development.

“The program works to meet the individualized needs of students whose goal is to move from school to a work environment,” said Amstutz. “We’re happy to continue this valuable program and are grateful to our food service partner, Aladdin, and our own plant operations team for their work with REACH students.”

This is the fourth year that the College has partnered with the school district around the REACH program.

Drs. Cole and Amstutz are joined by Dr. Pam Mckinnon, special education director for Glynn County Public Schools, and Dr. Jason Umfress, vice president for student affairs and enrollment management for the College of Coastal Georgia.

“The College of Coastal Georgia is strengthened daily by strong partnerships,” said Amstutz. “The REACH program is an opportunity for the College to be a good partner to Glynn County Public Schools and the community.”
