Visa and Immigration Information

According to U.S. government regulations, all applicants who need a student visa to study in the U.S. must demonstrate they have sufficient funds to pay for the tuition costs and living expenses while attending the College of Coastal Georgia.

  • Show financial readiness by providing an official financial statement in English from a banking institution on bank letterhead, signed and stamped by a bank official, showing available balance (U.S. dollar amount) to cover the student’s expenses inclusive of tuition, fees, lodging, transportation, insurance and supplies for one academic year. These documents are not required to receive a decision on an application but are required prior to issuance of any documents needed for the visa application process, namely Form I-20.
    • Submit the Financial Guarantee Form along with your financial documentation.
      • The amount that you must certify for the first year will depend on your tuition classification status and whether you will live on-campus or off-campus (estimated cost of attendance, which includes tuition, fees, books, room and board, and other expenses budget) minus the amount of any tuition waiver and/or financial assistance from the College of Coastal Georgia. For example, an international student who plans to live off-campus, awarded Athletic Financial Aid ($6,250) and an academic presidential waiver, which changes the student’s tuition classification to “Resident,” would need to certify $7,682 for the first year.
    • Submit the I-20 Request Form along with your passport identification page and student visa (if applicable)
    • Apply for a student visa
      • The application process can take longer than expected. It is best to begin your visa application as soon as you receive your I-20 Certificate of Eligibility.
        • You must pay the SEVIS I-901 fee to the U.S. Government at www.FMJfee.com prior to your visa interview. Take a copy of the receipt to your visa appointment interview.
    • What to Bring to your Visa Interview
      • I-20 or DS-2019 signed by the school and the student or exchange visitor
      • Acceptance/Welcome/Offer letter to College of Coastal Georgia
      • SEVIS I-901 Fee paid receipt
      • Passport valid for at least 12 months
      • One 2×2 passport photo per person applying
      • Completed visa applications with barcode (if applicable, DS-160, DS-158, DS-156, or DS-157).
      • For a Machine-Readable Visa, you must pay the application fee. The fee varies per consulate. You can sometimes pay at a bank, through a third party, or usually always at the consulate. You need the paid receipt for the interview.
      • Proof of funding, including Financial Guarantee Form
      • Evidence of ties to your home country is essential. This can include:
        • Financial ties such as a current local bank account statement (showing the balance and when established), or investments in the home country
        • Family-owned business or proof of a family business being relinquished to you in the future
        • Proof of continued university study or employment upon return after your program in the U.S.
        • Ownership of a residence in your home country (a deed or lease)
        • Employment or employment opportunities, such as an employer’s confirmation to return to employment position after graduation, offers of employment in home country upon graduation, or statistics on projected position availability in field of study in home country
      • Any other document mentioned on your consular website not listed here

If you have dependents who will accompany you, also bring:

  • Birth and marriage certificates
  • Application materials and fees for dependents
  • Financial documents showing enough to cover dependents expenses
