Coca-Cola Executive to Speak at Coastal Georgia Fall Commencement

The commencement ceremony for the Fall 2019 graduating class of the College of Coastal Georgia will be held at the Jekyll Island Convention Center on Sunday, December 15 at 3 p.m. Lori George Billingsley will be the keynote speaker for the ceremony. Billingsley is currently the Global Chief Diversity and Inclusion Officer for The Coca-Cola Company.

Emory Dawson Scholarship Recognizes Outstanding Students and Honors Namesake

The College of Coastal Georgia celebrated two of its outstanding students and the life and legacy of alumnus Emory Dawson at a special reception held recently on the Brunswick campus. The annual event announces the year's recipients of the Emory Dawson Scholarship awarded by Elks Lodge 691 of Brunswick. The scholarship is awarded each year to two students with disabilities at the College who have demonstrated strong academic performance. Sutton Rollins, a sophomore, and Jonathon Widener, a senior, were each awarded $1,000 to help continue their education at Coastal Georgia. The students were honored in front of family and friends, Elk Lodge members, faculty, and staff of the College inside the Huie-Wilcox Gallery in the Hargett building.

Nursing Students to Host Health Fair during Food Distribution Event

College of Coastal Georgia nursing students are spartnering with America's Second Harvest of Coastal Georgia and Bay Harbour Church of God to host a health fair on Monday, November 18. The health fair will be held from 7:30 a.m. to noon at Bay Harbour Church during its monthly food distribution event. Event attendees will have the opportunity to get a free health assessment as they receive food. The health fair will feature stations addressing various health topics such as smoking cessation, blood pressure education, and how to eat healthy on a budget. Students will perform skin checks, blood pressure screenings, and health assessments with action plans for each individual based on their findings. The students will also provide referrals for follow-ups with healthcare facilities and providers at either a free or reduced cost.

College Ranked Again for Best for Vets

The College of Coastal Georgia has moved up in its ranking as a veteran-friendly campus. Each year, Military Times recognizes America's best institutions for veterans in its "Best for Vets: Colleges" rankings. The College placed 110 in the nation for 2019 and currently stands at 81 for Best for Vets: Colleges 2020. Coastal Georgia also ranked third in the state of Georgia.
