Open Records Resource PageThe College of Coastal Georgia has designated the Assistant Vice President for Human Resources and Auxiliary Services (for personnel and business records) and the Registrar/Director of Admissions (for student records) as the College's Open Records Officers. As such, these two entities are responsible for ensuring the College's compliance with the Georgia Open Records Act. This law places important responsibilities on you as a College administrator, faculty or staff member. Please familiarize yourself with this material. Most importantly, please be sure to notify either the Assistant Vice President for Human Resources and Auxiliary Services at 912.279.5740 or the Registrar/Director of Admissions at 912.279.5730, as appropriate, immediately when you receive a request for any record held by your office.
Both the Human Resources Department and the Registrar's Office seek to make the College's open records compliance procedures user-friendly, non-adversarial, and open. The laws of Georgia make virtually every record held by the College, with only a few specific exceptions, accessible to any citizen who requests to see it. Placing unnecessary barriers between the people and the records to which the law entitles them access serves no positive purpose for the institution. Therefore, it is the College's goal to comply with requests for records under the provisions of the Open Records Act. The procedures outlined here will help you and us determine in a timely way whether the records exist and whether they fall under the Act, and to make them quickly accessible to the requestor.
Please call either the Assistant Vice President for Human Resources and Auxiliary Services at 912.279.5740 or the Registrar/Director of Admissions at 912.279.5730, as appropriate, immediately whenever an issue arises regarding the application of the Georgia Open Records Act.
