Anchor Days Quest List:

*REQUIRED tasks

*1. Find the Zell Bell, and rub it for good luck!

Every campus has its superstitions. The Zell bell is one of ours. Once a part of a campus bell tower, this landmark is located in the center of the campus and has become a good luck charm students consult when they need a little extra help on that hard test. Find it, rub it for luck, and then go wash your hands.

Look for the Anchor Day logo and scan the QR code from your Mariner App or visit the website on the Zell Bell to get credit for this activity.

*2. Meet other people and get involved on campus.

College is all about what you make it, and you have got to make it good. We have 1,000 things to do on this campus, but you have to start somewhere.

Attend at least 1 Weeks of Welcome Event. Look for the logo and scan the QR code from your Mariner App or visit the website to get credit for this activity. Visit www.ccga.edu/wow or follow Student Life on Instagram @ccgastudentlife.

*3. Get serious about your education.

You are here to learn, so it's time to get serious about your education. How you think about school and approach problem solving, or your Academic Mindset, is key in your success. Get your mind right and start approaching challenges from a positive frame.

Go to the Library, find the ATTIC, and watch the video Academic Mindset. This will serve 2 purposes. One, the video gives some really great advice about how to get your attitude right for college work. And two, you will literally be standing right in the middle of where you can go to get the help you need to be successful. It's a win win!

Look for the Anchor Day logo and scan the QR code from your Mariner App or visit the website at the end of the video to get credit for this activity.

*4. Understand what your professors expect from you.

College professors are different than high school teachers. They expect significantly more from you. They also are pretty cool people who are here to help you succeed. Knowing what to expect when you walk into class on day one will be helpful for you as you learn to navigate the college classroom.

Visit https://tinyurl.com/CCGAFacultyExpectations and watch the video titled about faculty expectations. Look for the Anchor Day logo and scan the QR code from your Mariner App or visit the website at the end of the video to get credit for this activity.

*5. College is hard. Don’t get behind in your classes!

College is hard, but there is help literally everywhere! A great place to begin is in the ATTIC with the Supplemental Instructors or SIs. SIs are peer tutors who have taken the class before, been successful, and are now sitting through the class again to be able to help you during an after-class study session. You will definatley want to get to know your SI in each of you classes, and this task will help you learn who they are and where to find them.

Visit the ATTIC in the Library and watch the SI Introduction video. Look for the Anchor Day logo and scan the QR code from your Mariner App or visit the website at the end of the video to get credit for this activity.

*6. Understand what it means to be a member of the Mariner Community

New Student Convocation is a campus tradition that signifies the official opening to the academic year. Where normally we would all gather together to experience this as a new class, this year, we are bringing it to you virtually.

Visit www.ccga.edu/convocation, sign the Student Pledge, and watch the short video message from President Michelle Johnston and SGA President, Kelsey Rios. Look for the Anchor Day logo and scan the QR code from your Mariner App or visit the website at the end of the video to get credit for this activity.

*7. Take advantage of all the things the College offers

We have some amazing things available to us on the campus…all you have to do is look around. From the Student Health Center, to the e-Sports Lounge, to the new Intercultural Resource Center, there a lot of things you can take advantage of as a student

Find ONE of the following offices/spaces on campus. Look for the Anchor Day logo and scan the QR code from your Mariner App or visit the website to get credit for this activity.

*8. Act like a Mariner.

As a member of our Mariner community, we have certain expectations of how people behave on our campus. It’s important that you know and understand what those expectations are and what to do in the event you need some help. Dr. Michael Butcher, our Dean of Students, is a great resource.

Visit www.ccga.edu/studentconduct to review the resources, and find the contact information of the Dean of Students Office. Look for the Anchor Day logo and scan the QR code from your Mariner App or visit the website at the end of the video to get credit for this activity.

*9. Make some new friends.

College is what you make it, and the people you spend your time with are important. Be sure you are taking some time to make some connections to the people here.

Making friends in person is always best, but take a screen shot of at least 5 new Coastal friends you have made on the Mariner App, new friends on Instagram, Snapchat, TikTock, or other social media sites. Send the screenshot photo to anchordays@ccga.edu. We will send you the QR code or website for you to get credit for this activity.

*10. Get to know your professors.

College is different than high school, and college professors have different expectations than your high school teachers did. That’s why it’s important that you start building relationships with them as soon as you can.

Find the office of the professors who teaches the class you think will be the most difficult for the semester. If they are in their office when you stop by, knock on the door and introduce yourself. Look for the Anchor Day logo posted outside their office door and scan the QR code from your Mariner App or visit the website to get credit for this activity.

BONUS!

11. Finish your Coastal Discovery Workshop

Sure, you’ve been through NAVIGATE and Coastal Connection LIVE, but there is still a ton of stuff to learn about the College. Coastal Discovery Workshops, which are located in your D2L, will take you through all the things you didn’t know that you didn’t know.

13. Check out the art in the Administration Building

The College has a beautiful collection of local art that most students never see because it is in a less-visited building – the Hargett Administration Building. The building is open every day from 8a-5p, so feel free to stop in and take a look. While you are in there building, pop in to say hello to President Johnston. She is a busy lady, but if she is available, she would love to say hi.

It is important that you stay active, and the College has a number of ways to help. The Fitness Trail goes around Teel Lake and features an outdoor workout area. The 6-goal basketball court is a great place to keep in shape while shooting some hoops. So is the sand volleyball court. Anything to stay active will be important as you settle into your new life as a Mariner.

We are fortunate to have one of the safest campuses in the country, thanks to the work of our Campus Police. Whether you are on campus during the day or after hours, you will see our Campus Police protecting our campus 24/7/365. They are certified police officers who take the idea of “community policing” seriously. They are always just a phone call away at (912) 258-3133 or 911 to help escort you across campus, jump your car off, or respond in an emergency. Get to know them…they are really cool people.

Find the Campus Police Department in the Andrews Building, look for the Anchor Day logo posted at the entrance, and scan the QR code from your Mariner App or visit the website to get credit for this activity –

20. Financial Aid Office

Find the Financial Aid Office in the Andrews Building, look for the Anchor Day logo posted at the entrance, and scan the QR code from your Mariner App or visit the website to get credit for this activity.

21. Yardarm

If you haven’t pick up on it yet, everything has a nautical reference…everything! Even our flag poles. The Yardarm is a nautical term for the tall part of the ship where sails, flags, and the crows nest is located. On our campus, the Yardarm is a campus landmark located at the front of the Pedestrian Mall. It’s a good way to get your bearings or an obvious place to meet up with friends.

Find the Yardarm at the front of the campus, look for the Anchor Day logo posted on it, and scan the QR code from your Mariner App or visit the website to get credit for this activity

22. Willie’s Wee Nee Wagon

Willie’s Wee Nee Wagon has been a Brunswick institution, and our next door neighbor, for years! Started as a hot dog cart of Norwich Street in 1975, the Chambers family has been serving hungry Coastal students and citizens for 45+ years. While the hot dogs are great, try the pork chop sandwich or the Willie Burger…but ask for extra napkins!

23. IT Help Desk

Our Information Technology department is AWESOME – PERIOD! They keep us connected and have some really cool toys and gadgets that make our lives easier. They are also very helpful when things go wrong. Passwords, Laptop Loaner programs, software support are just a few of the reasons you may need to see them in person. They are kind of tucked away on the 2nd floor of the Andrews Center, but it’s an important place to know about.

Find the IT Help Desk in the Andrews Building, look for the Anchor Day logo posted at the entrance, and scan the QR code from your Mariner App or visit the website to get credit for this activity.

24. Campus Center Rooftop

One of the best, most underused places on campus, the Rooftop of the Campus Center is one of the best views on campus. Accessible from inside the Campus Center or from the exterior, it is a great place to get away, meet with friends, and plenty of room for social distancing.
