QEP Resources

An exploration of Coastal Georgia's culture, strategic planning, goals, mission, and assessment results is a good place to begin the search for an appropriate topic, one that links to the College’s mission/vision and fits into the institution’s strategic plan. Tapping into issues centered on student learning where shared interests, concerns, and aspirations have already surfaced or where data have previously been collected and analyzed may prove fruitful. The topic for the QEP need not be a brand new idea. For example, Coastal Georgia could develop a QEP that extends, modifies, redirects, or strengthens an improvement that is already underway. Or, develop a QEP around a project for which initial planning commenced shortly before the start of preparations for reaffirmation.


Coastal georgia QEP 2011

To enhance student learning, the College of Coastal Georgia selected Learning through Engagement: Service-Learning as the topic for its Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) during the last reaffirmation of accreditation. The development and implementation of the selected QEP aligned well within the College's mission that clearly identifies service-learning as an integral part of the institution.

In 2017, Coastal Georgia submitted a QEP Impact Report documenting the successful implementation of the program: QEP Impact Report (2017). SACSCOC approved this report as part of SACSCOC's Fifth-Year Interim Review process.

Surveys

First Destination Survey (FDS). The Office of Career Services annually surveys May graduates receiving degrees from the College of Coastal Georgia. Embedded in the survey are standard metrics established by the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) to help evaluate the data collected in the First Destination Survey (FDS), which captures information regarding how new college graduates fare in their careers within six months of graduation. Graduating Student Survey (GSS). The Graduating Student Survey (GSS) is conducted in the spring semester a few weeks before graduation and asks graduating seniors to describe their plans after college, to rate various aspects of their college education, and to suggest ways that we can make the Mariner experience more positive for students in the future. Summer Orientation & Anchor Days Survey (SOADS). A formative analysis of new student orientation and Anchor Days survey results are completed annually to evaluate the effectiveness of these programs. In particular, analyses were conducted to examine whether students completing the transitional program reported increases over their pre-test scores on knowledge about key CCGA services, academic expectations, comfort level with college, and understanding about success in college. National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE). NSSE collects information at hundreds of four-year colleges and universities about student participation in programs and activities that institutions provide for their learning and personal development. The results provide an estimate of how undergraduates spend their time and what they gain from attending college. Coastal Georgia participates in the survey every three years. Complete College Georgia Campus Reports
The Complete College Georgia Campus Reports are an opportunity for Coastal Georgia and other USG and TCSG institutions to reflect on their past work and plan for the next steps. Updates are living documents rooted in an institution's mission and student body profile, reflecting the work that will most impact their goals for improved student success.


QEP SAMPLES
Viable QEP topics may focus on areas such as enhancing the academic climate for student learning, strengthening the general studies curriculum, developing creative approaches to experiential learning, enhancing critical thinking skills, introducing innovative teaching and learning strategies, increasing student engagement in learning, and exploring imaginative ways to use technology in the curriculum.
