Department of Education and Teacher Preparation
The Department of Education and Teacher Preparation offers two baccalaureate degree programs in teacher education – Early Childhood and Special Education and Middle Grades Education. Additionally, the department offers secondary education certification tracks for students majoring in Biology and Mathematics. Through a clinical model of practice, the departmental faculty engage in teacher preparation with a focus on content knowledge expertise, effective teaching strategies, and classroom management. DETP faculty are confident that, upon graduation, candidates are poised to meet the challenges of contemporary classrooms. All teacher candidates complete professional education coursework and content-specific coursework alongside structured, supervised field experience in the schools.
