How to Use Your Mariner Access Card (MAC)
The Mariner Access Card (MAC) has two magstripes on the back, as well as a contactless chip embedded inside it.
The chip embedded in your card can be used for on-campus purchases in the vending machines and copy machines. While the chip will activate a card reader from approximately 1.5" away, you may find it easier to just tap your card onto the reader. All on-campus purchases utilize funds in your Coastal Cash account. Click here to learn more about Coastal Cash and how you can make a deposit onto this account.
The chip is also used to activate door access readers. Currently, several door access readers are installed at the Health & Science Building. The exterior door readers will be used to restrict building entry after business hours. During business hours; however, you do not have to use your card to enter the building. Doors to the Rad Tech suite and the 2nd floor Nursing wing located in the Health & Science Building are 24/7 restricted areas. Faculty, staff and students working within these programs will need their MAC card and door access privileges for entry. Access readers are also installed at The Lakeside Village residence hall buildings and parking gate, as well as the Campus Center, all of which will utilize the contactless chip technology.
The black magstripe is used for all on-campus transactions, such as checking out books at the library and accessing your meal plan and laundry services. On-campus purchases at the bookstore can be made using the black magstripe. While the MAC card readers on the vending machines and copy machines can be activated using your card's contactless chip, they can also take a swipe of your black magstripe – the choice is yours! Your MAC card is a convenient way to receive and use your financial aid refund. The holographic magstripe is used to access your Discover debit account, where your financial aid refund would be deposited if you select the MAC for as your preferred disbursement account.
Accessing your funds is easy: you can withdraw your funds from a variety of local free ATMs, including one on each campus, pay your bills with Money Network Checks, and use your MAC card wherever Discover is accepted.
It is very important that you activate your card

- Enter your birth date in the format of MMDDYYYY
