Coach Gerald Cox Memorial Scholarship

The purpose of the Coach Cox Memorial Scholarship is to honor the memory of legendary Coach Gerald Cox and his service to the Men’s Basketball program by supporting Men’s Basketball student-athletes who embody what he tried to instill in the young men he coached.

Cox was a Men’s Basketball Coach, Director of Athletics and Physical Education Instructor at the College of Coastal Georgia. In each of these roles, Cox had a lasting and positive impact on the lives of hundreds of students and student-athletes. At his retirement in 2014, the College named Cox “Men’s Basketball Head Coach Emeritus” in recognition of his contributions to the College and community. In 2020, Coastal Georgia named the court in Howard Coffin Gym the Coach Cox Court in his honor. Cox passed away on July 12, 2020.

Polly Cox, widow of Coach Cox, has also issued a challenge to all who knew or were touched by Coach Cox to give in honor of his legacy. Every dollar counts in the lives of a student, and no amount is too small to change a life.

The Coach Gerald Cox Memorial Scholarship will be presented to Men’s Basketball Student-Athletes at the College of Coastal Georgia who embody the Athletics Department’s S.A.I.L.S. motto (Scholarship, Athletic Excellence, Integrity, Leadership and Sportsmanship) and maintain a 3.0 GPA.
