DESCRIPTION:Cumberland Island National Seashore 50th Anniversary Commemoration Speaker Series Gullah Geechee Language Instructor Comes to Camden County \n  ST. MARYS\, GA (May 15\, 2023) – Cumberland Island National Seashore invites the community to attend a free culturalheritage speaker series engagement on June 17th at 2 p.m. at the College of Coastal Georgia Camden Center. The seriesis a commemoration event for the 50th anniversary of Cumberland Island’s designation as a national seashore.The final program in the three-part speaker series\, set for Saturday\, July 17\, will feature Sunn M’Cheaux presenting aprogram on the Gullah Geechee language and its rich history and ties to the coast. There will be a brief meet &amp; greetfollowing the program at 3:00 p.m. \n  Mr. Sunn M’Cheaux is an academic\, artist\, entertainer\, and advocate. He is a Gullah/Geechee Charleston\, South Carolina“binyah” (native). Sunn is a resident lecturer and African Language Program instructor for Project Teach at HarvardUniversity. He has collaborated in film and television as an actor and as a Gullah language and culture consultant.The program will take place at the College of Coastal Georgia\, Camden Center and is presented with the support of theGOPE Group of Companies\, SureStay Plus Hotel\, the Riverview Hotel\, St. Marys Convention &amp; Visitors Bureau (SMCVB)\,the City of St. Marys\, and the Friends of Fort Frederica.
