Ryan Gravel: The Transformational Power of a Big Idea
Posted 03/06/2019 10:59AM

In the first installment of the 2019 College of Coastal Georgia Foundation's Distinguished Speakers Series, Ryan Gravel, the visionary behind the Atlanta BeltLine, will be speaking at the Southeast Georgia Conference Center Thursday, March 21.

While a graduate student at Georgia Tech, Gravel used his master's thesis to spark a big idea for Atlanta. He proposed turning a 22-mile stretch of old railroad lines into a series of multi-use trails, modern streetcar routines, and parks. From that initial spark was born the BeltLine, a project that has fanned the flames of urban development in Georgia's largest city. Gravel will be presenting his learnings from the project before sitting down for an onstage interview with former Atlanta Journal-Constitution Managing Editor Bert Roughton. The event will conclude with Ryan answering questions from the audience about what a Brunswick-specific idea could mean for the future of the region.
