Charting a New Course

The College of Coastal Georgia institutional strategic plan that concluded in 2015 served the institution well as a robust guide in establishing strategic direction and priorities. However, significant changes in our environment over the course of the last few years has made clear the need to embark on a strategic planning process over the next few months that shapes the mission, vision and strategic direction of the College with greater emphasis on accountability, transparency, sustainability, and institutional planning.

In August 2014, President Gregory Aloia convened a Strategic Planning Committee of over fifty participants, including Brunswick campus, Camden Center, Foundation, and community representatives, to develop a strategic plan to lead the College to the year 2021; and, in the process, re-envisioning the College’s mission, reevaluating its strategic priorities, crafting a new institutional strategic plan, and ensuring alignment of the plan with University System of Georgia and Complete College Georgia strategic directives. The Committee consists of administrators, alumni, faculty, staff, students, Foundation members, and members of the community.

“Our current strategic plan has provided the road map for continuing our successful metamorphosis into a thriving four-year state college with trail-blazing rapidity. But as rapid as that change has been, the landscape of higher education in Georgia is shifting faster than the sandbanks along the St. Simons Island beach,” stated President Aloia, adding: “To be prepared to meet the challenges of what lie ahead, I am asking our College community to engage in a collaborative strategic planning process that will result in a new institutional plan, Coastal Vision 2021, to help us map our future together.”

The College underwent a rigorous and synergistic strategic planning process during the 2014-15 academic year. The end result was the creation of a set of institutional strategic goals, objectives, and action strategies, along with a series of key performance indicators (KPIs), to help navigate the College through 2021.
