College of Coastal Georgia Benefits Information

Benefit eligible employees have a variety of options to choose from in order to meet their healthcare needs. Newly eligible employees have 30 days from their effective date to select insurance plans for themselves and their eligible dependents. Eligible dependents include spouse and dependent children up to age 26.** You will be required to present a marriage license, birth certificate, or other document establishing a dependent relationship as a condition of coverage.

Newly eligible employees have two options as to when their benefit coverage begins: the effective date of their qualifying event (new hire start date, date of family status change, date of status change, etc.) or the first day of the following month. For example, if John Smith begins as a new hire on January 18th , he can choose January 18th or February 1st as his benefit start date. Monthly premiums cannot be prorated based on the start date of coverage. Instead, the entire month's premium must be paid regardless of the start date of coverage. Although there is a 30 day window for making benefit selections, employees must take into consideration the payroll cycle for which their premiums are to be deducted from their paychecks. If an employee selects a benefit start date after payroll has been processed, the missed premiums must be caught up on the next paycheck in order to be up to date on insurance payments.

On an annual basis, the College offers an open enrollment period. During this period, employees may change their healthcare plan elections and levels of coverage for the upcoming calendar year.
