College of Coastal Georgia, University System of Georgia
RADIOLOGIC SCIENCE

Associate of Science - Radiologic Science

The Program

The Radiologic Science Program is a two-year curriculum leading to an Associate of Science Degree. All Radiologic science courses closely follow the recommendations set forth in The Professional Curriculum for Radiography Programs published by the American Society of Radiologic Technologists. In fulfillment of the College of Coastal Georgia mission to provide equal emphasis on career programs and university parallel programs, the mission of the program is to develop sufficient skills which will enable the graduate to enter employment in the field of radiography as an entry level radiographer. This field lends itself to excellent opportunities for men and women.

The goals of the program are:
• to develop academic, technical, and professional knowledge and skills required for job acquisition, retention, and advancement.
• to develop critical thinking related to patient care concepts and procedures in the related radiologic science field.
• to provide a combination of didactic and clinical instruction necessary for successful employment.
• to develop collaborative relationships with imaging departments, related businesses and industries to provide learning experiences in the field of radiologic services.

Admissions Requirements
1. Applicants must be able to meet/perform the essential functions for radiologic science as listed in the college's ADA plan.
2. An applicant must complete the College of Coastal Georgia application as well as the Radiologic Science Program Application (these may be obtained from the Division of Health Sciences Office (AH 109 or a Radiologic Science Faculty member).
3. The college application and all supporting information, such as transcripts, testing, and immunization records must be in the Registrar's Office by January 15.
4. Learning Support courses (if required) must be completed prior to being considered an applicant for the Radiologic Science program.
5. An applicant may enroll in the required general education courses of the program during any semester of the academic year; however, the Radiologic Science courses begin only in the Fall Semester each year and are taught in sequence on an annual rotation basis.
6. If a student desires to attend college on a part-time basis, completion of general education courses prior to beginning the Radiologic Science sequence is recommended.
7. The applicant must have a 2.0 overall GPA in the required general education courses and a minimum grade of "C" in English 1101 to be considered for the program.

Application to the Program
1. Radiologic Science program applications must be submitted by January 15 to be considered for fall semester admission to the program.
2. A meeting with the Radiologic Science faculty is required prior to enrollment into the program.
3. Program enrollment is limited and applicants will be evaluated and accepted according to the following criteria:

Program Continuation
1. All general education courses must be completed prior to spring semester of the sophomore year.
2. The student must maintain a minimum grade of "C' in all Radiologic Science courses, to continue in the Radiologic Science program.
3. Students must have an overall 2.0 cumulative grade point average to graduate.

Readmission
Readmission is not guaranteed. A student may be readmitted to the program only one time. If the student has been out of the program for more than one year, the student must audit the last didactic and clinical radiologic science courses in which he/she was enrolled. Students terminated from the program are not eligible for readmission.

EXPENSES
In addition to the regular college expenses, there are additional considerable expenses for Radiologic Science students. Students should be aware that the student will spend 30-35 hours per week in class/clinicals.
