Is Getting a Bachelor's Degree worth the Effort and Investment?

According to the U.S. Department of Education's National Center for Education Statistics , between 1980 and 2005 "young adults with at least a bachelor's degree consistently had higher median earnings than those with less education." In 2005, male workers ages 25-34 with a high school diploma or GED had a median income of $29,600, while those with a bachelor's degree or higher earned $48,400. Among women with the same characteristics, those with a high school diploma or GED made $23,500 and their counterparts with bachelor's degrees or higher earned $39,500. In nearly every field, bachelor's degree holder's annual salaries are substantially above their less-educated peers, and the gap grows the more years worked.

For those individuals who plan on working in Georgia, data from the U .S. Census Bureau American Community Survey 2005-07 shows that the Georgia Average Per Capita Personal Income for Bachelor's Degree holder is $70,210. This is substantially more than the same data for those holding Associate Degree's ($47,420), some college ($44,390), high school graduates ($35,910), and those with less than high school education ($28,800). Bachelor's degree holders are also much less likely to be unemployed (3.1%) than their less educated counterparts (i.e., 3.7% for Associate degree holders to 10.6% for those lacking a high school diploma). Last but not least, the head of household incomes of bachelor's degree holders in Georgia was $92,020, while associate's degree heads of households' income was $64,710, and those with only high a school diploma or GED equaled $44,130.

Why Should You Get Your BBA from CCGA?

The business program at CCGA offers a number of clear advantages for our students. The benefits underlying our value proposition for CCGA students include the following:

  1. Our faculty / student ratio. Our program is designed so that you will know your faculty members, and they will know you as well. This can be advantageous not only during the program but also afterward as well when you need a reference for a prospective job or a reference to graduate school. Our faculty will advise you, guide your projects and provide special support. They will not treat you or refer to you as a number.
  2. CCGA students get taught all of their upper division courses by full-time faculty members, not teaching assistants or individuals we “fly in” to teach you. Your instructors are devoted to delivering excellence in learning and are readily available to you.
  3. Our business faculty is one of the most talented anywhere. It includes individuals who have spent decades in the business world, former deans and chairs of several business schools, authors of popular business books and articles, consultants with well-known companies around the globe as well as here in the Golden Isles, small business owners, and individuals who absolutely love to teach students about business.
  4. CCGA business students get a well-grounded generalist BBA. Because of your receiving a better breadth and depth of exposure to core business areas like accounting, economics, management, and marketing, you will be better-prepared for most entry-level positions in all types of organizations.
  5. Our students pay the lowest BBA tuition of any University System of Georgia institution. You get the same (if not better) quality of degree that you might find in other institutions, but will pay much less for it.
  6. CCGA BBA students get networked into the “real world” from the first class forward. Our upper-division courses require students to do “live” real organization, including a supervised internship. Although we know that books and classroom learning are necessary elements of any quality degree, getting early and often opportunities to apply and enhance your learning in the real world really brings the value and learning to a higher level.
  7. We offer a good selection of our required BBA courses in the evening for students who work during the day. Our courses are generally offered on our Brunswick campus, and a number are also offered on our Camden campus for those students who find it more convenient to attend there. All of our courses are also supported through Blackboard, the state-wide learning platform that enhances the ability to provide you learning materials in real-time outside the classroom.
