Cares Act Reporting

The College of Coastal Georgia has signed and returned the Certification and Agreement as of May 2, 2020 and will use, or intends to use, no less than 50 percent of the funds received under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act to provide Emergency Financial Aid Grants to students.

$1,405,993 has been specifically set aside to assist students with Emergency Financial Aid Grants. As of January 4, 2021, all $1,405,993 has been distributed directly to the 2,094 eligible students through the form of grants and emergency assistance.

The College of Coastal Georgia determined eligibility of student awards based on federal guidance. Students must be eligible for Title IV Federal Aid, and must not be enrolled in all on-line classes. The funds were then disbursed in the three groups listed below.

The Coastal CARES Base Grant – Part 1: Qualifying students who were enrolled full or part-time at the College as of March 13, 2020 will receive a base grant of $375.
The Coastal CARES Needs Grant – Part 2: Qualifying students who were enrolled full or part-time at the College as of March 13, 2020 and received the Pell Grant as a part of their financial aid package will receive an additional grant of $375.
The Coastal CARES Student Emergency Fund – Part 3: Qualifying students may apply for Coastal CARES Emergency Fund grants to assist those who have experienced additional hardships as a result of the COVID-19 crisis. These funds will be available to supplement amounts already disbursed in parts 1 & 2 of the Coastal CARES grants and are intended to address unexpected emergency expenses related to the cost of attendance. Funds will be requested through an electronic application. This application is available at www.ccga.edu/caresemergency.

Student Guidance

Students were notified of the availability of the CARES Act through an All Student email issued on May 4, 2020. In that email and invitation was also extended for students to attend a “Table Talk” via Blackboard Collaborate on May 8, 2020. At this video meeting, the students were able to ask any questions and address any concerns that they may have regarding the CARES Act. This information was also made readily available on the College of Coastal Georgia’s website, and an assistance email was generated (help@ccga.edu) to guide students questions to the most beneficial campus representative.
