COMPASS Placement Exam

Exam: An entrance/placement exam to measure reading, writing and mathematics skill levels.
Cost: Free to students who have applied to CCGA. $20 if you are testing for another college. No charge for Exit Exam.

The COMPASS Placement Exam

The COMPASS placement exam gathers information about students' educational needs and plans and measures their skills in the areas of reading, writing, and mathematics. This system can administer a test to a student on demand and instantly prepare a comprehensive course placement. Immediately after testing each student receives the test results in print form. The results are then made a part of every student's official transcript.

All new students seeking admission to the College of Coastal Georgia are required to take this placement exam if they have not obtained the cut scores of SATM 400, SATV 430 or ACTM 17, ACTE 17. Please contact the testing coordinator at Brunswick at 912.279.5738 or Camden Campus at 912.510.3301 to verify that the center will be able to accommodate any special needs.

COMPASS Exam Exemption

The following SAT /ACT Scores will exempt you from the COMPASS Exam
Note: Scores cannot be combined (i.e., ACT and SAT)

SAT: Math 400, Verbal 430
ACT: Math 17, English 17

  • All Testing is by appointment only.
  • All Candidates must present a valid picture ID before testing. You will not be allowed to test without proper identification.
  • All Students are expected to be on time.
Please call to schedule your appointment as there will be times that the Testing Center will be closed due to high volumes of testing each semester.

Study Resources

Students are automatically retested if they are within five points of the required minimum score. Otherwise they are referred to Learning Support for remediation.

The COMPASS Exit Exam

The COMPASS exit exam assesses the progress students have made in remedial courses or other informal learning experiences that parallel the measurement domains in the system. The Exit Exam is an evaluation process for students attempting to exit remedial studies / learning support classes. Students are required to make the minimum placement scores in reading, writing and math before they are allowed to exit learning support. All students are given two opportunities to take the exit exam.
All fees are to be paid prior to testing. Testing candidates are to bring a copy of their receipt with them. For Independent Exams, it is the candidates' responsibility to ensure that their exam is sent to the college in a timely manner. ALL testing fees are paid in the Business Services office. The Business Services Office in Brunswick is located in the Hargett Administration Building. Office hours are from 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. The Business Services office at the Camden Center is located in the back of the Rotunda on the south side. Office hours are Monday-Thursday 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
To Send Your Test Scores to Another Insitution
Fill out the Test Release Form and either mail it to the appropriate address or email it to the Testing Services Center. Please note that sending your scores to another institution requires your original signature as well as a copy of your ID.
