Brunswick, GA – The College of Coastal Georgia is partnering with Honeywell Hometown Solutions to host a summer teaching academy for middle grade science, math, and social study teachers on campus June 11-15. The public is invited to attend the presentation by the plenary speaker, PJ Newcomb, Sustainability Program Manager with Coca-Cola Refreshments, on Tuesday, June 12, at 5:30 p.m. in the Stembler Theatre of the Campus Center.
Newcomb will discuss Coca-Cola’s work in water stewardship, sustainable packaging and energy conservation. He will offer suggestions on how some of these initiatives can be scaled for use by the local community, small businesses, schools and homes.
A native Georgian and graduate of Georgia Tech, Newcomb has worked to advance sustainability for most of his 17-year career, including prior service with the Georgia Environmental Finance Authority, the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, Georgia Tech, and the Saturn Corporation. Coca-Cola Refreshments is the sales and distribution division of The Coca-Cola Company.
The objective of the professional learning initiative is to provide area teachers content and experiences in the fields of coastal ecology, sustainable development, and environmental education, using the education for sustainability (EfS) approach that stresses a balance between economic prosperity and environmental integrity.
